At the Edge of Life
Faith, Suffering, and the Question of Assisted Death
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” — Psalm 90:12
Introduction: A Question We Cannot Escape
None of us truly know what choice we would make at the very end of our lives.
This is a matter of the soul.
“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” — Mark 8:36
The Journey of the Soul
The same God who gave us life will guide us home.
“The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” — Job 1:21
“The spiritual life that brought you into this world is the same life that will lead you home.”
When Suffering Changes Everything
Pain reshapes perspective. It can make life feel unbearable.
“My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart.” — Psalm 73:26
“What we believe in strength may not hold in suffering.”
Faith and the Sacredness of Life
Life is sacred. It is a gift from God.
“Ye are not your own. For ye are bought with a price.” — 1 Corinthians 6:19–20
“All things work together for good to them that love God.” — Romans 8:28
“Even in suffering, God is still working.”
The Tension Between Pain and Belief
This is not rebellion—it is wrestling.
“My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9
“At the edge of life, decisions are not made in theory—but in truth.”
A Call to Compassion
We are called to walk beside those who suffer.
“Bear ye one another’s burdens.” — Galatians 6:2
“We are not called to judge the suffering—we are called to walk beside them.”
Conclusion: Walking the Path Home
Trust God to carry you home.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
“The same God who gave you life will be faithful to carry you home.”
